In 2017 I was asked by the clients to design and make some railings and a small pair of gates that spoke about the beautiful house within and integrated well with the adjacent knot garden. Together we decided on an oak theme as the house was primarily constructed of oak and had some beautiful wooden detailing. The swooping tops to the railings add visual interest
Following the installation, I designed and made the ‘Serenity Gates’ that marked the division between the courtyard and the extensive gardens with lake beyond the gates. The imagery of the gates shows carp and water plants below the waterline, water lilies above and a major oak tree to continue the theme of the railings.
Finally it was decided that a Water Dragon was needed by the lake! This was an interesting collaboration with the clients and the final design drew upon historical and cultural visions of ‘dragon’.
